Synopsis: Mojada sets Euripides’ story in modern California. Instead of a Greek sorceress, Medea is an uncannily gifted seamstress from the Michoacán state of Mexico. Like her Greek counterpart, she has left her homeland for another country, partially out of love and partially to escape her past. Her ambitious husband, Jason, has his eyes set on better things for himself and his family. His ambition does not go unnoticed by his boss, Armida. A haunting tale about immigration, assimilation, and sacrifice.

Instead of: Medea by Euripides.

Play: Mojada can be found in the newly published The Greek Trilogy of Luis Alfaro: Electricidad; Oedipus El Rey; Mojada. Please contact us if you are unable to access the book or have accessibility needs and we will help you get a copy.

Discussion format: Actors will be reading scenes from the play and/or we will listen to select songs to kick off our discussion. This will provide a jumping off point as well as some context for people who are unable to read it ahead of time. The Thumbprint Team will be facilitating an open conversation where we hope that people will feel confident to bring their thoughts and experiences to the discussion. Additional materials will be provided to you in our Welcome Packet to dig in further to the study of this work, if you so choose to use them.
You do not need to have read the material beforehand to participate.
