You got the job, now it’s time to dive into the script—but where to begin? This class, for actors, directors and playwrights, will provide a roadmap to the center of the world of the play. We will examine traditional aspects of story structure and elements of storytelling to create a skeleton of the script. Utilize Elinore Fuchs’ essay “Visit to a Small Planet” to flesh out the themes and rules of the world while unlocking imagination in relationship to character development. As well as apply Stanislavski’s active analysis to detailed scene work, deepening understanding of the scene’s driving force and character relationships. Work will be approached from both an analytical and kinesthetic perspective to provide an embodied understanding of the play.
