This series of genre specific voice classes are designed to increase vocal flexibility and the understanding of how to produce sounds with your own unique voice that follow stylistic standards. Each class meets three times; the first week to discover what makes up the style and how it is generally applied, the second week to explore how that feels in your own voice, and the third to apply it directly to a song and receive feedback from the whole class. You will also receive a half an hour private coaching from your instructor, Jaina Alexander, who will address any challenges or questions you may have one-on-one. These classes are an opportunity to explore a new genre, deepen your understanding of one you already work in, or start your journey into becoming the ultimate cross-trained singer.
Pop & Rock - The most broad category we will explore this term. From the conception of rock and roll to now. For people interested in singing in Jukebox musicals or with a band! Style changes and trends from decade to decade will be discussed.
Note on choosing songs to work on: Do not be concerned about "type" when looking at a song. We at Thumbprint feel that putting people in boxes in that way is artistically limiting and part of the systemic white supremacy that exists in theatre. We are proponents of conscious and authentic casting. Works should show off your artistic superpowers and be something that you truly enjoy. Jaina is more than happy to assist with choosing material for you to look at.
This series is for any performer looking to gain vocal flexibility and increase style knowledge
